US visa appointment in Dubai

A US visa from the UAE is rarely refused for the reasons people fear. It is delayed for one reason: getting an interview appointment. The decision usually comes quickly once you are in the room. Reaching the room is the whole problem.

This guide explains how the appointment actually works, what to do when the calendar is empty, and why nobody — including us — can promise you a date.

How a US Visa Appointment Works from Dubai

The order is fixed and cannot be rearranged:

  1. The DS-160 form is completed and submitted
  2. The USD 185 application fee is paid
  3. Only then can an interview appointment be scheduled
  4. You attend, and the decision follows

You Pay Before You See the Calendar

This is the part that costs people money. The fee is paid at step two. The available dates appear at step three.

So you commit USD 185 per applicant before you know whether a date exists inside your travel plans — and the fee is not refunded if the dates do not suit you, if you change your mind, or if the visa is refused.

Anyone booking flights before that calendar has been seen is gambling.

Two Posts Serve the UAE

Applicants in the Emirates are handled by the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate General in Dubai. They are separate posts with separate calendars, and their availability is rarely the same.

The US publishes current appointment waits for every post rather than fixing them, and the figures move. That is why this guide quotes none: a number written today is wrong next month. What matters is the date showing on the day you apply, which is the first thing we check.

What to Do When There Are No Appointment Dates

An empty calendar is not the end of the matter. There are three real options and one that does not exist in the UAE.

The Renewal Route That Skips the Appointment

If you are renewing a B-1, B-2 or B1/B2 visa you may not need an appointment at all. Since 1 October 2025 an in-person interview is the default, but qualifying renewals are still processed without one.

Check that before you look at a single date — for a large number of UAE residents it removes the queue entirely.

Is There a Paid Fast-Track?

There is one, and it does not cover the UAE.

The US is running an optional expedited appointment pilot until 31 December 2026, offering an interview within 10 business days for USD 750 on top of the USD 185 fee. The participating posts are in Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Honduras. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are not among them.

So in the UAE there is no official way to buy an earlier interview. If anyone offers you a guaranteed US appointment in ten days from Dubai, that is a claim about their booking effort, not about any programme that exists. We will not make it.

Where the pilot does run, it is also unforgiving: the USD 750 is non-refundable, the appointment cannot be rescheduled, missing it forfeits the money, and renewals that qualify for the interview waiver are excluded from it.

Who Can No Longer Skip the Appointment

Children under 14 and applicants over 79 now generally require an in-person interview. Both groups used to be waived almost automatically, so a visa renewed by courier in the past may need an appointment this time.

Rescheduling, Missing and Starting Again

Dates can be changed, within the limits each post sets. What does not come back is the fee. Missing a booked interview without rescheduling it is treated as a problem with your application rather than a neutral event, and it puts you at the back of a queue you have already waited in.

US Visa Appointment in Dubai — Common Questions

Can I book a US visa appointment before paying?
No. The DS-160 is submitted and the USD 185 fee paid before any dates are shown.

How long is the wait in Dubai?
It changes constantly and the US publishes current figures per post. We check the live date for Abu Dhabi and Dubai before you pay anything.

Can I pay to get an earlier appointment?
Not in the UAE. The paid expedited pilot runs only in six countries in the Americas, and it ends on 31 December 2026.

Is the fee refundable if no dates suit me?
No.

Can I apply in Abu Dhabi instead of Dubai?
They are separate posts with separate calendars, so availability differs.

Do I need an appointment to renew?
Possibly not. A qualifying B1/B2 renewal can be processed without an interview.

Does my child need an appointment?
Under 14, generally yes — that changed in October 2025.

What if I miss my interview?
Reschedule rather than skip it. The fee is not returned either way.

Should I book flights once I have an appointment?
Not before the visa is in your passport. An appointment is not a decision.

Why Apply Through Al Baron Tourism?

We check two things before you pay anything: whether your case qualifies for an interview waiver, and what dates actually exist across both UAE posts. One of those can remove the wait completely, and the other decides whether your travel plans are realistic.

Then we complete the DS-160 to match your documents, watch both calendars rather than taking the first slot offered, and tell you plainly when a trip needs moving. What we will not do is promise a date that is not ours to give. Price and the next step are on our US visa for UAE residents service.

Please note: US visa fees, appointment availability and interview waiver eligibility are set by the US authorities and change without notice. All applications are subject to their decision, and the position for your specific case is confirmed at the time of application.
