Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a visa on arrival in Shanghai?

No. There is no visa on arrival for Shanghai for UAE residents. You must apply and receive approval at the CVASC in Dubai before your flight. The only exception is the 144-hour transit visa, which requires you to be travelling onward to a third country within that period.

Is a Shanghai visa different from a China visa?

No. Shanghai uses the same Chinese visa system as every other mainland Chinese city. When you apply for a tourist or business visa, it covers all of mainland China — you can visit Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and other cities on the same visa.

How long can I stay in Shanghai on a tourist visa?

A single-entry tourist visa typically allows a maximum stay of 30 days. Multiple-entry visas may be valid for six months to one year, with each visit limited to 30 or 60 days depending on the visa issued.

Do I need a separate visa if I want to visit Shanghai and Beijing on the same trip?

No. A single Chinese visa covers all of mainland China. You can travel freely between Shanghai, Beijing, and any other city during your authorised stay period.
