Description
Australia is one of the most popular long-haul destinations for UAE residents — but the visa process is more involved than most countries. There is no e-visa or visa-on-arrival for the majority of passport holders living in the UAE. Most applicants need the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600), which requires an online application, financial documentation, and proof of ties to the UAE.
Al Baron Tourism handles Australia visa applications from Dubai every week. This page explains which visa type applies to your passport, what documents you need, how long processing takes, and what it costs through us versus applying on your own.
Which Australia Visa Do You Need?
Australia has three visitor visa types. Which one you can apply for depends entirely on your passport nationality — not your UAE residency.
ETA Subclass 601 — For Select Passport Holders Only:
If you hold a passport from the USA, Canada, UK, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, or any EU country — you can apply for the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) through the Australian ETA app. Fee is just AUD 20 (~AED 48). Allows up to 3 months per visit with 12-month validity. Processing is usually within minutes. You do not need Al Baron’s service for this visa.
eVisitor Subclass 651 — For EU and UK Passport Holders:
If you hold a passport from any EU country or the UK, you can apply for the free eVisitor visa through ImmiAccount. No fee, up to 3 months, processed within days. Again, no agency needed.
Visitor Visa Subclass 600 — For Everyone Else:
If your passport is Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino, Egyptian, Nigerian, Sri Lankan, Jordanian, Syrian, Lebanese, or any other nationality not eligible for ETA or eVisitor — you need the Subclass 600. This is the visa Al Baron Tourism processes for UAE residents.
Subclass 600 Visitor Visa — What Al Baron Tourism Handles
The Subclass 600 is a full visa application requiring documentation, financial proof, and evidence of genuine temporary entry. It is applied for online through Australia’s ImmiAccount system.
Visa streams available:
- Tourist stream: For holidays, visiting friends, or general tourism. Stay up to 3, 6, or 12 months depending on approval. This is what most UAE residents apply for
- Business Visitor stream: For attending meetings, conferences, or exploring business opportunities. Same application process as tourist stream
- Sponsored Family stream: For visiting close relatives who are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Your Australian relative must sponsor you and may need to pay a security bond (AUD 5,000–15,000). Processing takes significantly longer — up to several months
Documents Required for Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)
The application is 100% online through ImmiAccount. You need:
- Valid passport: At least 6 months validity beyond your intended stay in Australia, with blank pages
- UAE residence visa: Valid and current
- Emirates ID: Both sides, clear scan
- Passport-sized photographs: Recent, white background, 35x45mm
- Bank statements: Last 3–6 months showing sufficient funds to support your stay. No minimum fixed amount, but consistent salary credits and healthy balance expected
- Employment letter or leave letter: Confirming your position, salary, and approved leave dates. This proves your ties to the UAE
- Salary certificate: From your employer, on company letterhead
- Travel itinerary: Flight bookings (tentative is fine) and accommodation plan
- Travel insurance: Covering your entire stay in Australia
- Cover letter: Explaining the purpose of your visit, your ties to the UAE, and why you will return. Al Baron Tourism prepares this for you
For Sponsored Family stream, additionally:
- Invitation letter from your Australian sponsor
- Sponsor’s Australian citizenship or PR proof
- Relationship evidence (birth certificates, marriage certificates)
Australia Visa Processing Time from Dubai
Processing times vary by stream and individual circumstances:
- Tourist stream: 7–33 days for most applications. 50% processed within 16 days, 90% within 33 days
- Business Visitor stream: Similar to tourist stream
- Sponsored Family stream: Significantly longer — can take several months
- Frequent Traveller stream: 75% processed within 5 days (requires 2+ prior Australia visits)
These are Department of Home Affairs published times as of July 2026. Actual processing depends on application completeness, nationality, and current caseload.
Australia Visa Cost — AED 1,200 All-Inclusive
Self-application (direct through ImmiAccount):
- Government visa fee: AUD 250 (~AED 600) — non-refundable even if refused
- You handle the entire application yourself — ImmiAccount form, document uploads, cover letter, GTE statement
- Risk: Incomplete applications, weak cover letter, or insufficient financial evidence leads to refusal. The AED 600 is lost
Through other agencies in Dubai:
- Typical agency packages: AED 1,600 or more
- Some agencies charge government fee separately on top of service fee
- Always confirm whether quoted price includes or excludes the AUD 250 government fee
Through Al Baron Tourism:
- All-inclusive fee: AED 1,200
- Covers: Government visa fee (AUD 250) + document review + cover letter preparation + ImmiAccount application + submission + tracking
- The cheapest all-inclusive rate from any licensed agency in the UAE — competitors charge AED 1,600 or more
You save AED 400 compared to other agencies, and Al Baron handles everything from document preparation to final submission. Given that the government fee is non-refundable if your application is refused, professional handling reduces your risk significantly.
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) — Why Applications Get Refused
Australia’s biggest visa requirement is proving you are a genuine temporary entrant — meaning you intend to visit temporarily and will return to the UAE. This is where most refusals happen, not missing documents.
The Department of Home Affairs assesses:
- Your ties to the UAE: Stable employment, family in UAE, property ownership, children in school — all strengthen your case
- Your immigration history: Previous travel to Western countries (USA, UK, Schengen, Canada) significantly helps. First-time long-haul travellers face more scrutiny
- Financial position: Consistent salary, savings, and financial stability. Large sudden deposits look suspicious
- Purpose of visit: Clear, specific travel plans. Vague answers weaken your application
- Country conditions: Applicants from countries with high overstay rates face additional scrutiny regardless of personal circumstances
Al Baron Tourism prepares your GTE cover letter based on your specific circumstances — employment, family, travel history, and financial position. A strong GTE letter is the difference between approval and refusal.
Common Mistakes That Cause Australia Visa Refusals
- Weak financial evidence: Bank statements showing low balance or irregular income. Large last-minute deposits are flagged as suspicious
- No cover letter or poor GTE explanation: The Department wants to know WHY you are visiting and WHY you will return. Skipping this or writing a generic letter is a common cause of refusal
- Incomplete employment proof: Missing salary certificate, no leave letter, or employment letter without company letterhead
- No prior travel history: First-time travellers to Western countries face higher scrutiny. If you have previous visas for USA, UK, or Schengen, include them — they strengthen your case
- Inconsistent information: Details on your application must match your documents exactly. Different dates, job titles, or salary figures between documents trigger additional review
- Applying for too long a stay: Requesting 12 months when your travel plans show a 2-week holiday raises GTE concerns. Apply for what you actually need
Health Examination — When Is It Required?
A health exam is NOT required for most short tourist visits under 6 months. The Department of Home Affairs may request one after you lodge your application based on:
- Stays of 6 months or longer
- Applicants from countries classified as higher TB risk (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and others)
- Individual circumstances flagged during processing
If required, you must visit an approved panel physician in Dubai. The full examination package (medical + chest X-ray) typically costs AED 600–1,200. You only pay this if the Department requests it — do not book a health exam before receiving your HAP ID through ImmiAccount.

What to Know Before Travelling to Australia
- Currency: Australian Dollar (AUD). ATMs and card payments widely available everywhere. AED can be exchanged at airports and exchange offices in major cities
- Language: English
- Best time to visit: September to November (Australian spring) and March to May (autumn) for comfortable weather across most regions. December to February is peak summer — great for beaches but very hot inland
- Flights from Dubai: Direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Flight time approximately 13–14 hours
- Time difference: Australia is 4–8 hours ahead of UAE depending on the state and daylight saving
- Visa is electronic: Your approved visa is linked to your passport number electronically. No sticker or stamp. Airlines check your visa status at check-in
- Customs declaration: Australia has strict biosecurity laws. Do not bring food, plant material, or animal products without declaring them — fines are severe
- Stay duration: Tourist stream typically grants 3 months. If you need longer, apply for 6 or 12 months but have strong justification
Popular Destinations in Australia
- Sydney: Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, and the Blue Mountains. Most international visitors start here
- Melbourne: Cultural capital — street art, coffee culture, Great Ocean Road, and the Yarra Valley wine region
- Gold Coast: Theme parks, surf beaches, and Hinterland rainforests. Popular for families
- Great Barrier Reef: World’s largest coral reef system off the Queensland coast. Cairns and Airlie Beach are the main gateway towns
- Perth: Direct flights from Dubai, stunning beaches, Rottnest Island, and Margaret River wine country
