Can a Housewife Get Schengen Visa from UAE?

Yes. Many wives on dependent or husband-sponsored visas in the UAE successfully get Schengen visas every year. The key difference is that since you do not have your own income, your husband acts as your financial sponsor for the trip. This means his documents play a major role in your application.

What Documents Does the Housewife Need?

You need your own passport with at least 6 months validity, your UAE residence visa showing spouse sponsorship, marriage certificate attested by UAE authorities, your husband sponsorship letter stating he is funding your trip, your husband salary certificate and bank statements for 3 months, flight and hotel bookings in your name, travel insurance in your name, and passport photos.

The Sponsorship Letter

This is the most important document. Your husband needs to write a letter stating that he is sponsoring your trip to Europe, including the dates, destination, and that he will cover all expenses. The letter should include his full name, passport number, employer details, and monthly salary. It should be signed and ideally stamped by his employer.

Bank Statement — Whose Account?

If you have your own bank account, include it even if the balance is low — it shows financial awareness. But the primary bank statements should be your husband account showing a strong balance. If you have a joint account, even better. The embassy wants to see at least AED 15,000 to 20,000 available.

Traveling Without Husband?

If you are traveling to Europe without your husband (for example, with friends or family), you still need his sponsorship letter plus a no objection certificate from your husband. Some embassies may ask additional questions, so a clear cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip helps.

What If You Have No Personal Bank Account?

Many housewives in the UAE do not have their own bank account. This is not a problem. Your husband bank statements serve as the primary financial proof. However, if you can open a savings account and have even a small balance, include it. Some embassies view applicants with their own bank account more favourably because it shows financial independence, even if the balance is modest.

Attestation Requirements for Marriage Certificate

Your marriage certificate must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If your marriage certificate is from your home country, it needs to be attested there first, then by the UAE embassy in that country, and finally by MOFA in the UAE. This process can take 1 to 2 weeks, so start early. Some embassies accept the attested marriage certificate along with a UAE marriage registration if available.

Cover Letter Template for Housewives

Your cover letter should include your full name and passport details, a statement that you are a housewife sponsored by your husband in the UAE, your husband full name, passport number, employer, and position, a clear statement that he is funding your trip, your travel dates and destination, your itinerary, and a confirmation that you will return to the UAE where your husband and family reside. Keep it to one page, professional and clear.

Traveling with Friends While Husband Stays

This is increasingly common — wives traveling with other friends to Europe while husbands remain in the UAE. You need your husband written consent, his sponsorship letter, and his bank statements. Additionally, include a brief note in your cover letter explaining who you are traveling with and why. If your travel companion is applying for a Schengen visa too, mention that your applications are linked.

What About Working Wives on Husband Visa?

Some wives work part-time or have a small business while on a dependent visa. If you earn any income, include it in your application — it strengthens your profile significantly. A wife who works part-time and also has husband sponsorship is actually a very strong applicant because she has both personal income and family financial backing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a divorced woman apply? Yes, with your own financial documents. You no longer need a husband sponsorship letter. Your own income and bank balance become the primary financial proof.

What if my husband salary is low? Focus on the bank balance rather than the salary figure. A lower salary with a good savings balance of AED 20,000 plus is workable.

Can I apply if my husband has been rejected before? Yes, your application is independent. His previous rejection does not affect yours. However, do not mention his rejection in your application.
