14-Day Short Stay Visa
Best for quick holiday trips. Two weeks gives you enough time to explore Dubai’s main attractions, take a day trip to Abu Dhabi, visit the beaches and malls, and still have a few relaxed days. If your trip is purely leisure and you have a fixed return date, this is the most affordable option at AED 379.
30-Day Tourist Visa (Most Popular)
The 30-day visa is the most requested option among South African travellers. It works for holidays, family visits, short business trips, and combination trips where you want to explore multiple emirates without feeling rushed. At AED 399, it is only AED 20 more than the 14-day option and gives you double the stay duration.
60-Day Extended Visa
Choose this if you are spending extended time with family in the UAE, combining business and leisure over several weeks, or planning to visit multiple emirates at a relaxed pace. The 60-day visa gives you the flexibility to change plans without worrying about your visa expiring mid-trip.
Multiple Entry Visas
Multiple entry visas allow you to leave and re-enter the UAE several times during the validity period. These are practical for business travellers who need to visit other Gulf countries (Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia) during their trip and return to the UAE, or for South Africans with ongoing business relationships in Dubai who visit regularly.
June 2026 Visa-on-Arrival Update for South Africans
From 25 June 2026, the UAE introduced a visa-on-arrival option for South African passport holders who also hold a valid residence permit from one of the following countries: United States, United Kingdom, any EU member state, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, or South Korea.
If you qualify under this rule, you may receive a 14-day or 60-day visa on arrival at any UAE airport without pre-approval. However, this only applies if you hold a qualifying residence permit — not a tourist visa or work permit from those countries.
If you do not hold one of these qualifying residence permits, you still need a pre-approved visa before travelling. The majority of South African travellers to Dubai still apply through the standard online process.

Required Documents for South African Applicants
Passport Requirements
Your South African passport must be valid for at least six months from your intended date of entry into the UAE. The passport must be machine-readable, in good physical condition, and have at least two blank pages available for entry and exit stamps. Passports that are torn, water-damaged, or have a damaged bio page will be rejected.
If your passport expires within six months of your travel date, renew it before applying for a UAE visa. A visa application with an almost-expired passport will be rejected, and the application fee is not refundable.

- Clear colour scan of passport bio page — the page with your photo, full name, passport number, and expiry date. All four corners must be visible. No glare, shadows, or blurring. This is the most important document — a poor-quality scan is the number one reason for processing delays among South African applicants.

Processing Time

UAE weekends are Friday and Saturday. Applications submitted on Thursday evening will typically be processed starting Sunday. UAE public holidays (Eid, National Day) also add to processing time. Apply at least two weeks before your travel date to avoid any last-minute stress.
Common Reasons for Visa Rejection
South African visa applications get rejected for preventable reasons more often than you would expect. The most common issues include blurry or cropped passport scans where details are not legible, passport numbers or personal details on the application that do not match the passport exactly (one wrong digit is enough), passports with less than six months validity remaining, and unresolved issues from a previous UAE visit such as overstay fines or immigration violations.

Travelling with Children and Family
Every traveller needs their own individual visa — including children and infants. A child is not automatically covered by a parent’s visa. Each child needs a valid South African passport (with six months validity) and a separate visa application.

Can You Extend Your UAE Visa
Some 30-day and 60-day tourist visas may be extendable from within the UAE, depending on the visa category and the rules in place at the time of your stay. Extension must be applied for before your current visa expires — overstaying even by one day results in daily fines and potential immigration issues.
If you think you might need more time in the UAE, the safest option is to apply for a longer visa from the start. Extending a visa from within the UAE involves additional fees and is not guaranteed.
Can You Visit Abu Dhabi and Other Emirates
Yes. Your UAE visa is valid for all seven emirates — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. You do not need separate visas for different emirates. Many South African visitors combine Dubai with a day trip to Abu Dhabi (Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Yas Island theme parks) or a weekend in Ras Al Khaimah (Jebel Jais, desert resorts). Johannesburg is the main departure hub. Emirates operates direct daily flights from O.R. Tambo Airport (JNB) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) with a flight time of approximately 8 hours. This is the busiest route between the two countries with multiple daily frequencies.
Cape Town has direct flights to Dubai as well, with a flight time of around 9 hours 20 minutes. Durban King Shaka Airport offers connections to Dubai with a flight time of approximately 8 hours 20 minutes.
South Africans from Pretoria typically fly from Johannesburg, while travellers from Gqeberha, East London, and Bloemfontein connect domestically to one of the three main hubs.
